Mirror's Edge Catalyst

Genre: Action-Adventure, Platform
Released June 7, 2016

The sneaky, parkour professional, runner is back. That's right, Faith is back on a new adventure to take down the evil company, KrugerSec, but this is not a sequel or even a prequel, but a reboot to showcase Faith's past. After the game was officially announced the DICE product manager Sara Jansson confirmed that this is not in anyway a sequel, but instead a look into Faith's past using the same elements from the first game. But moving on there has been a big split among players, half saying they loved the story and that it was truly incredible while the other half has no idea what's going on. So here's a clarification for you guys. Enjoy!

Story

You start of the game, Faith is let out of a detention center and not even five minutes after leaving is tossed right back into the world of runners. Shortly after leaving the detention center you meet Icarus, another runner of the same level as Faith. These two don't get along and have a heated rivalry.

As you go through the missions you eventually have to go on a mission with Icarus to infiltrate and steal data from KrugerSec. After Faith steals the data she see another intruder and follows and watches him steal some data as well. After he stealing the data he is spotted and taken down by Isabel Kruger, but takes a cyanide pill and dies before they can arrest and question him. After watching the whole ordeal Faith steals the disc as well and makes an escape. After escaping Faith finds out the disc is encrypted, she takes it to the hacker plastic to be decrypted only to find that they are blueprints to a project called Reflection. This gives KrugerSec not only the ability to control people, but as well as their minds; freewill would be no more.

After we are shown a flashback from Faith's past, we find out that Faith's parents were killed by KrugerSec and that they were watching from a maintenance tunnel and after witnessing this tried to make an escape as they were escaping a gas grenade was thrown into the tunnel with them. Faith's sister collapses, and thinking that she was dead, Faith continues to run until she finally meets up with Noah who takes her to safety. Only to find out later that she didn't die, but was adopted by Kruger and renamed Isabel Kruger.

KrugerSec eventually finds the runners hideout and storm the place killing everyone there. Faith and Icarus not being there at the time race back only to see Noah being captured and taken away. This caused them to join Black November, another runner who believes in revolution through fear. hey hatch a plan to kidnap Isabel, Faith at the time not knowing that that was her sister. After capturing her, Faith get some information and finds out that is her sister. Upon getting back Rebecca the leader of Black November is about to shoot Isabel until Faith stops her.

Plastic tells Faith that the runners were not killed, but instead were captured and Dogen, an information smuggler tells her they are being held in a facility underground called Thy Kingdom. Faith goes down there to rescue Noah and find a prisoner that use to be a researcher for Kruger and tells Faith their whole objective and how her mother use to work with them. Upon hearing this Faith releases her and searches for Noah in the interrogation room, but upon getting there she watches as Kruger kills Noah using Reflection, which instantaneously kills him.

Returning broken to Black November she find out that after moving Isabel to higher ground that they were attacked and Isabel is gone and that everyone was injected with Reflection. Faith then breaks into Kruger's apartment and steals his gridprint giving her and Plastic access to all of KrugerSec. Plastic then creates a virus to take down reflection.

Faith takes the virus to The Shard and uploads it. As she does this Kruger and his guards come in. After defeating the two guards Faith then proceeds to fight Kruger. Kruger then warns her that by shutting down Reflection she would also kill her sister since Isabel has a chronic lung disease caused by the gas grenade and Reflection is keeping it at bay. Isabel then walks in, but then quickly runs away, after catching up with her the two sisters fight on the helipad as it starts to collapse. Isabel saves Faith from falling and then helps Kruger. The game ends with Isabel taking over and then asking Faith what's she going to do, in which she responds, "I'm gonna run." before giving you free range.

Characters

Faith
Main Protagonist, watched her parents die and left sister behind after assuming she was dead. Is very impatient and stubborn, but deeply cares for those close to her.

Isabel (Caitlyn)

Assumed dead sister of Faith. Was adopted by Kruger who provided her with everything she needed and brainwashed her into thinking Faith was dead. Is a very strong opponent. She inherits KrugerSec after Kruger goes missing.

Faith's rival and the best runner in the group. Is very snippy, sarcastic, and likes to challenge Faith, but respects Noah. He and Faith become close friends after Noah dies.

Acts like a guardian to Faith as if she was his own daughter. Took her in after Kruger killed her parents. Is very strict, but in a protective way. He cares for each of his runners.

A information smuggler. Faith owes him a big debt. He is logical and rude and doesn't liked to be messed with.

Plastic
A hacker. She decrypts a disc that Faith stole from a spy taken down by Kruger's daughter, Isabel. Is very intellectual and does not seem to show emotion at all. Doesn't get normal conversation.

Leader of Black November. Thinks violence is the only way to take down Kruger. Very authoritative, but has a sense of humanity. Is willing to make an example of someone by killing them to make a point. Not trustworthy.

The CEO of KrugerSec and adoptive father of Isabel (Caitlyn). He brainwashed Caitlyn into thinking Faith died and killed ??? He is very commanding and aggressive. He hates to lose and is willing to even kill just to get his information back.

Enemies:

There are many enemies throughout mirror's edge and the difficulty of these enemies just get harder and harder like any game should. So here are the types of enemies you'll have to face.

Guardians
Class: Light Melee
One of the most common enemies seen throughout the game. The runners have had to deal with them for years. Normally come in twos and are everywhere.

Protectors
Class: Melee
They take longer to take out due to their increase in competence and protective gear. They are able to counter and retaliate against repeated attacks and combos.

Shock Protectors
Class: Heavy Melee
These enemies pack a big punch. They are tough and very resistant to direct attacks. Their training gives them the upper hand in stationary combat.
Weakness: Lots of movement: dodging a lot, and running around.

Enforcers
Class: Ranged
Are trained in positional and high damage long distance ranged combat. Are very skilled and are normally with other enemies.
Weakness: Are lightly trained in close hand to hand combat.

Sentinels
Class: Hunter
These are the toughest enemies you will probably face in the whole game. The are very skilled, fast, tenacious, and quick to deal out punishment. Are very resistant to direct attacks.
Weakness: Keep moving, and Air attacks.

My Thoughts:

I honestly thought the game was good and I really enjoyed it. Although I was among the people who had no idea what was going on, when I went and re-watched it on YouTube, I was actually able to get it. I do think the creators do need to work on the story a little more because I got confused half way through, but I don't know maybe I'm crazy and just can't see it. I loved the free range running though, I thought that was fun to be able to pick my own route. I also liked the way they animated the story how it's different from the first Mirror's edge where they used 2D comic book like animation to this game where they are using 3D animation. I think if your interested in games like Assassin's Creed and Parkour games this is definitely the game for you. Here's my favorite trailer of the game:

I like you to also voice your opinions and questions. I'd really like to hear your guy's thoughts. Did I do a good job? What did you like? What should I change? And what should I write on next?
